My name is Benji, and I am the founder of Freak Athlete Essentials. In my pursuit of professional soccer, I’ve undergone three knee surgeries—all before the age of 21.
When I tore my ACL last year, there wasn’t a question of whether I’d get back—I just needed to figure out how. In October, I had ACL reconstructive knee surgery. Six weeks later, I started the ATG Zero training program. I used every regression possible to train my left (torn ACL) side.
I struggled with my right knee, too. I never thought it would fully bend again due to two meniscus surgeries, but I methodically worked through the progressions nonetheless.
After a month of bodyweight training under my belt, I was ready to add load. I bought the cheapest tib bar I could find for $50—handmade from PVC piping. It got the job done, but I knew I could make something that was both better and more affordable.
So, I invested my life savings to produce 300 metal tib bars, and we launched in March for $49.
Today, Freak Athlete Essentials is more than a 21-year-old selling fitness equipment. It is a community of coaches and athletes around the world with one common mission: to help people achieve longevity and performance.
ATG is all about allowing anyone to do what they love, pain free, for as long as they want to do it. Freak Athlete is here to support that mission with innovative and affordable equipment of the highest quality.
